Dermal fillers are injectable gel-like substances used to restore lost volume, smooth wrinkles, and enhanced facial contours. Most are made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring sugar in your skin.

As we age, the skin gradually loses collagen, elastin, and underlying fat, which can lead to reduced facial volume and the development of a more hollow or tired appearance. Dermal fillers are used to restore lost volume in areas such as the cheeks, temples, and under-eye region, helping to create a fresher, more youthful look. They can also soften the appearance of deeper lines and folds, including the nasolabial folds and marionette lines, while enhancing facial contours and maintaining natural-looking results.
In the hands of Dr Perry Crofts, dermal fillers are one of the most powerful aesthetics tools for maintaining a youthful yet natural appearance over time.
Fillers are incredibly versatile, and our patients use them to:
- Minimise the appearance of facial wrinkles
- Minimise scarring
- Plump thinning lips
- Define and contour the cheeks, jawline, or chin
- Look refreshed in a subtle way
- Restore age-related volume loss
- Reduce skin sagging and jowling
- Achieve overall harmony and symmetry within the face
Your Dermal Filler Treatment Experience
CONSULTATION
A comprehensive consultation with Dr Crofts will be conducted to discuss your aesthetic goals, assess the areas you would like to enhance, and create a personalised dermal filler treatment plan. During your consultation, Dr Crofts will explain the procedure in detail, including the expected results, treatment process, longevity of the fillers, and any potential risks or side effects. You will have ample opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns, ensuring you feel fully informed, confident, and comfortable before proceeding with treatment.
TREATMENT
A series of carefully placed injections will be administered to restore lost volume, enhance facial contours, and soften the appearance of lines and folds while maintaining natural-looking results. Using a fine needle or cannula, the dermal filler is precisely injected into the targeted areas to provide support, definition, and rejuvenation where needed.
Each treatment is tailored to your individual facial anatomy, concerns, and aesthetic goals. The procedure typically takes 30–45 minutes, depending on the areas being treated and the amount of filler required.
AFTERCARE
Following treatment, it is normal to experience some mild swelling, redness, tenderness, or bruising at the injection sites. To support optimal healing and results, we recommend avoiding excessive pressure on the treated areas for the first 24–48 hours. You should also avoid strenuous exercise, excessive heat, saunas, steam rooms, and direct sun exposure for the first few days after treatment. Staying well hydrated and following the aftercare advice provided by your practitioner will help ensure the best possible outcome. Please see the full aftercare guidance below.

For the First 24–48 Hours
- Avoid strenuous exercise and activities that may increase blood flow to the face.
- Avoid excessive alcohol consumption.

- Refrain from facial treatments, including facials, chemical peels, and laser treatments.
Contact the clinic immediately if you experience:
- Increasing pain, significant swelling, or severe redness.

FAQs

HOW LONG WILL THE EFFECTS LAST FOR?
You can expect to see immediate results from your treatment. Depending on your product choice and treatment area, those results should last from six months to two years.
However, each patient is unique, and the length of your results will depend on how quickly your body metabolises the product. Individual results will vary, and we cannot guarantee that your body will adhere to these timelines exactly.
All dermal fillers eventually leave the system and touch-up treatments are recommended.
WHAT IS BETTER: ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS OR DERMAL FILLERS?
The truth is that dermal fillers are entirely different treatments than neurotoxins.
Dermal fillers are injected under the skin to smooth fine lines, restore age-related volume loss, or add structure to the face.
Neurotoxinslike Botox are injected into specific muscles to relax them, reducing stress to the skin in order to prevent or minimise wrinkles.
While both treatments can help to balance the face and mitigate signs of aging, they do so in different ways.
We often use these two treatments in conjunction for the most effective results.
WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS OF DERMAL FILLERS?
Pros of Dermal Filler:
- Can improve the appearance of facial lines and volume loss
- Metabolise with time, and therefore aren’t permanent
- Can be removed or reversed at any time using dissolver
- Does not require surgery or significant downtime
- Minimal pain
Cons of Dermal Filler:
- Can cause temporary redness, swelling, bruising, or itching, which some patients may find stressful
- Are not appropriate for people with bleeding disorders or certain allergies
- Like any injectable substance, filler can be dangerous when injected by someone who is unlicensed or unqualified
ARE DERMAL FILLERS SAFE?
Yes! All of the dermal fillers we use are FDA-approved medications that have undergone rigorous safety testing.
Juvéderm® and Restylane are both FDA-approved fillers that have been used safely by dermatologists and plastic surgeons for decades.
WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFETCS?
Swelling, redness, discomfort, bruising, headache, tenderness, lump formation, and itching at the injection site are the most common side effects. They rarely last more than a few days.
