What is Sculptra®?
Sculptra® is a unique collagen-stimulating injectable treatment designed to restore facial structure and improve skin quality from within. Unlike traditional dermal fillers, which provide immediate volume by physically filling an area, Sculptra® works by stimulating your body’s natural collagen production over time.
As we age, collagen levels gradually decline, leading to volume loss, skin laxity, and the development of lines and wrinkles. Sculptra® contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible substance that encourages the skin to rebuild its own collagen network. CONSULTATION
A comprehensive consultation with Dr Crofts will be carried out to assess your concerns, evaluate your skin quality and facial structure, and determine whether Sculptra® is the most appropriate treatment for your goals. During your consultation, Dr Crofts will explain how Sculptra® works to stimulate collagen production, the recommended treatment plan, expected results, treatment timeline, and any potential side effects or risks.
TREATMENT
Sculptra® is administered through a series of carefully placed injections into the deeper layers of the skin. The treatment works by stimulating your body’s natural collagen production, helping to gradually restore lost volume, improve skin firmness, and enhance overall skin quality.
Using a fine needle or cannula, the product is strategically injected into targeted areas to support facial structure and encourage long-term collagen regeneration. Treatment is tailored to your individual concerns and aesthetic goals, with the procedure typically taking 30–45 minutes depending on the areas being treated.
AFTERCARE
Following your Sculptra® treatment, we recommend avoiding touching, rubbing, or applying excessive pressure to the treated areas for at least 24 hours. To support optimal healing and results, you should also avoid strenuous exercise, excessive heat, saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, alcohol consumption, and direct sun exposure for the first 24–48 hours after treatment.
You will be advised to follow the recommended post-treatment massage protocol to help ensure even distribution of the product and support collagen stimulation. Mild swelling, redness, tenderness, or bruising may occur and will typically resolve within a few days. Please see the full Aftercare section below for detailed guidance.

What to Avoid
- Touching, rubbing, or applying excessive pressure to the treated areas for the first 24 hours.
- Strenuous exercise or activities that significantly increase blood flow for 24–48 hours.
- Excessive heat exposure, including saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, and very hot showers, for 48 hours.
- Direct sun exposure and sunbeds for at least 48 hours.
- Alcohol consumption for 24 hours, as this may increase the likelihood of bruising and swelling.
- Swimming pools and chlorinated water for 24–48 hours.
- Facial treatments such as chemical peels, microneedling, laser treatments, or facials for approximately 2 weeks, or until advised by your practitioner.
To help ensure even distribution of the product and support optimal collagen stimulation, you will be advised to follow the “5-5-5” massage rule:
- Massage the treated areas for5 minutes
- 5 times per day
- For5 days following treatment

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A SCULPTRA TREATMENT?
Your skin is cleansed and sterilised and the Doctor will mark out where the injection points will be, after an initial examination. When Sculptra is injected in to the skin, the PLLA microparticles stimulate the replacement of lost collagen. Over time, collagen production is increased and your skin looks healthier, feels firmer and appears lifted.
HOW MANY SCULPTRA SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
In general, most patients will require around 3 treatment sessions to achieve optimum results. These treatments are typically spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart. This means that the total time to complete the entire treatment course is around 6 to 12 weeks. However, these are general guidelines and your individual treatment plan will be discussed in your no obligation consultation.
AM I SUITABLE FOR SCULPTRA TREATMENT?
To determine whether you are a suitable candidate for Sculptra, Dr Crofts will conduct a no obligation consultation to assess your skin quality and discuss your concerns, as well as check your medical history to ensure you are fit and well enough for treatment and have no contraindications which may affect your procedure. Most patients from the age of 35 could benefit considerably from a Sculptra treatment, if they are experiencing skin ageing and dehydration, as well as lines and wrinkles.
WHAT ARE THE POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS OF SCULPTRA TREATMENT?
The most common side-effects after an initial Sculptra treatment include swelling at the injection site, tenderness, redness, pain, bruising, bleeding, itching and lumps. These are all very normal and will subside in a day or so. Your Doctor will advise on suitable preventative measures to take before your treatment, as well as aftercare, to minimise potential side-effects.
WHAT RESULTS WILL I SEE FROM A SCULPTRA TREATMENT?
Sculptra offers proven efficacy and results that last up to 2 years. These results can include a long lasting improvement in the appearance of wrinkles, an increase in elasticity and improved overall skin quality and radiance, 12 months after treatment and a more youthful glow to the skin with a lifting effect of skin sagging and laxity.
